Holders of the 11th pick in the 2022 Draft, the Knicks have no chance of selecting Jaden Ivey, who will likely be a Top 5 pick, without going through a trade. However, the club spoke well with the young point guard during the Combine, held last week in Chicago.
A simple background job, or the first test of a desire to go up to the Draft? According to the New York Post, which reported last week on the franchise’s interest in the former Purdue star, he’s the second choice. Note that Jaden Ivey is a client of the CAA agency, formerly managed by Leon Rose, the Knicks’ current president of basketball operations.
Therefore, the “interchange” track should be considered on the Manhattan side. With Sacramento, who could ditch their fourth pick for a player who can help right away? With the Pistons, holders of the fifth option and perhaps disappointed not to have inherited one of the first three options? With the Pacers, who doesn’t necessarily need a fullback? It’s hard to imagine a realistic scenario between these options…
Especially since the Knicks don’t really have wiggle room: RJ Barrett is a priori untouchable, Mitchell Robinson is out of contract and Julius Randle is unpopular after a failed season.
Leon Rose will have to get creative if he wants to get his hands on the talented and coveted Jaden Ivey, who could solve the club’s reoccurring problems at the top spot and would make a holy duo with RJ Barrett.
