Tennis, Roland Garros 2022: participants, scoreboard and competition schedule

The French Grand Slam runs until June 5. Djokovic is called to defend the title that he won last year. The Serbian, with Nadal, Zverev and Alcaraz, is in front of the scoreboard. On the downside, on the other hand, Jannik Sinner. In the first round for Musetti is Tsitsipas

It is the second Grand Slam of the year, after the Australian Open, and it is the quintessential French tennis event: Roland Garros takes place from May 22 to June 5. From the scoreboard to the Azzurri to follow, to the trivia: here’s everything you need to know.

The qualifying rounds of the tournament took place from May 16 to 20, while the first round of the main draw begins today. The afternoon session, introduced last year, is scheduled every day from May 23 to June 3. The possibility of access to 100% of the capacity is foreseen, that is, 40,000 spectators a day. Among the Italians, Matteo Berrettini is absent: recovery is progressing after the operation on his hand, but the Azzurro have announced that he still does not feel ready to face the French territory. At home, Italy broke through thanks to qualifiers Giulio Zeppieri, who joins Jannik Sinner, Fabio Fognini, Marco Cecchinato, Lorenzo Sonego and Lorenzo Musetti. Last year’s Roland Garros title went to Djokovic who is now called to defend the success he achieved in 2021. But Nadal -undisputed king of the French tournament, of which he made history by winning it 13 times- is also ready to fight, despite the usual left foot problem. Attention was also focused on the rising star of world tennis, Carlos Alcaraz.

The male marker

The men’s draw of the tournament was defined on May 19. Jannik Sinner, seeded 11th, is at the bottom and thus avoids Djokovic (fresh from the success of Rome), Nadal, Zverev and Alcaraz, all at the top. The Blues will make their debut against a qualifier and then could meet world number 2 Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals and the other Russian Andrey Rublev, already defeated in Monte Carlo, in the second round. Lorenzo Musetti, for his part, will face Stefanos Tsitsipas, fourth seeded, champion in Monte Carlo and finalist in Rome, in the first round. For Fognini – who is at the top of the scoreboard – there is the Australian Popyrin and a possible third round with Nadal. Sonego will face Gojowczyk and Cecchinato will challenge Andujar.

The female marker

In the women’s scoreboard, Italy’s attention was focused on Camila Giorgi, Jasmine Paolini, Martina Trevisan and Lucia Bronzetti. As for the male, also in this case the upper part seems the most difficult. Here the current number 1 in the world and Iga Swiatek were drawn in a streak of 28 consecutive matches. In the upper part, also 3 of the 4 Italians present: Giorgi-Zhang, Bronzetti-Ostapenko and Paolini-Begu the matches of the first round of the Azzurra. In the lower part Martina Trevisan who will start the tournament challenging the English Dart.
